The better you are at doing this as a manager, the more successful your team will ultimately be. Each manager usually does this in the way that seems or suits him or her best. Yet there is often a similarity in the way leaders manage their team if you look at it from the <a href=\"\/en\/what-is-disc\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DISC-theory<\/span><\/a>. Dominant, managers with a red style have similarities in terms of leadership, as do managers with a yellow, green or blue behavioural style. Below you can read some characteristics of leaders per DISC style that characterise their way of managing. Read through them and see what you as a leader might recognise in them\u2026. They do not shy away from confrontation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dare to set ambitious goals and go for them<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But also\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do they sometimes come across as too confident to the team; sometimes even a bit arrogant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Often have a fast pace that not everyone can keep up with<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can get easily irritated or angry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can scare others off by their direct way of communicating<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have difficulty with people who think and act slowly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#fdca43\"><strong>Yellow leaders<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are enthusiastic and know how to win a team over to their ideas very well<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give everyone in the team the opportunity to contribute ideas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aim to achieve results together<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Value a good atmosphere, fun and humour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a positive mindset; the glass is more often half full than half empty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But also\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Can sometimes present ideas better than they really are<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can sometimes favour team members with whom they have a good connection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are sometimes too optimistic about the feasibility of their ideas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are inclined to give only general or incomplete instructions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not always listen well and may therefore miss certain signals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#8bc242\"><strong>Green leaders<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Often take a subservient attitude towards the team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are excellent listeners who quickly identify needs of the team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Often know better than anyone the person behind the employee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Know how to calm and reassure others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carefully consider the feelings of others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But also\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do they find dealing with change quite difficult<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tend not to be visible to the rest of the organisation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Often postpone taking necessary, drastic measures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Often find it difficult to challenge team members on attitudes and behaviour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid confrontation in order to maintain harmony<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#2177b9\"><strong>Blue leaders<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Goes for delivering the highest quality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Makes decisions after very careful and thorough consideration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are clear in what is expected from everyone in the team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Works from clear rules, standards and guidelines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are highly structured and organised<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But also\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Will not be quick to &#8216;sell&#8217; their ideas but present them factually<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Often have little regard for the emotions of others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sometimes appear aloof and cool to the team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a tendency to set the quality standard too high<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can be too critical of others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More on leadership styles and DISC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For leaders, it is important to match his or her behavioural style to the DISC style of the other person he or she is leading. This ensures positive collaboration.
